Dental Cleaning

General dental cleaning is a routine procedure performed by a registered dental hygienist or dentist to remove plaque, tartar (hardened plaque), and stains from the teeth. It is typically recommended every six months to maintain optimal oral health. Here's a brief overview of the process:

  1. Examination: The dentist and the registered dental hygienist will examine your mouth to check for signs of gum disease, cavities, or other oral health issues.

  2. Scaling: Using special dental tools, the registered dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth, especially along the gumline and between your teeth. This step helps prevent gum disease and cavities.

  3. Polishing: After scaling, the teeth are polished to remove surface stains and smooth the tooth surfaces, making it harder for plaque to accumulate.

  4. Flossing: The registered dental hygienist will floss between your teeth to ensure that any remaining plaque or tartar is removed.

  5. Fluoride Treatment: In some cases, a fluoride treatment may be applied to help strengthen the enamel and protect against cavities.

Dental cleanings are a key part of preventive dental care, helping to keep your teeth and gums healthy, prevent tooth decay, and avoid more serious dental problems in the future.
